講題: With Whose Hands?: How Traditional Foodways Can Help Redefine Development
摘要:
Frederik van Oudenhoven is author of the book With Our Own Hands – A Celebration of Food and Life in the Pamir Mountains of Afghanistan and Tajikistan. The book uses food, and the many aspects of life that are connected to it, to paint an intimate portrait of the Afghan and Tajik Pamiri people, their agricultural traditions, their daily lives, struggles and celebrations.
In the Pamir Mountains, poverty, war and political upheaval have made it difficult and often dangerous for people to chart their own development trajectory in a way that is appropriate to their culture. This presentation will explore how food offers a powerful lens to understand a people and its connection to the landscape, and how it can be used as a tool to reimagine development as a truly endogenous process that builds a living culture and strengthens a community’s identity.
